Loan Agreement between the Xunta de Galicia and the CEB to finance water infrastructure investments in Galicia

21 May 2010

PARIS - The Xunta de Galicia, represented by the Conselleira de Hacienda, Marta Fernández Currás, and the CEB, represented by Apolonio Ruiz-Ligero, Vice-Governor, today signed a EUR 100 million loan aimed at financing a group of investments in order to extend water supply and improve wastewater treatment infrastructure in the Autonomous Community of Galicia (Spain).

The CEB funds will be used to improve the quality and reliability of drinking-water supply systems, strengthening water-related regional infrastructure, connecting isolated or poorly served communities and curtailing the level of pollutants still discharged into receiving basins, thereby diminishing environmental contamination.

We are extremely pleased today to continue our partnership, which began in 2001, with the Xunta de Galicia to enable the Autonomous Community to make use of the advantageous financing conditions proposed by the CEB. We are sure that the Region will use these funds in the best possible conditions in order to provide local inhabitants with good quality water supply and wastewater treatment infrastructure, as is the wish of the authorities of Galicia and those of the CEB” declared Apolonio Ruiz-Ligero, Vice-Governor of the CEB.
