CEB Award for Social Cohesion 2023 kicks off
19 January 2023
PARIS – The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) today launched the fourth edition of its Award for Social Cohesion, the annual competition to acknowledge outstanding contributions to social cohesion across Europe.
Three exceptional projects that address pressing social issues and make a difference in their communities will be recognised for the first time this year. The Award will bestow a €25,000 prize to the winner of the competition and €5,000 each to another two deserving projects.
“CEB Award for Social Cohesion aims at acknowledging the important role that civil society and other social economy actors play in enhancing solidarity and inclusion in our member countries,” said Governor Carlo Monticelli. “Their contribution to social cohesion is invaluable and we are proud to spotlight it and support it.”
The competition is open to small organisations and individuals over the age of 18 from the CEB’s 42 member countries. Their projects will be assessed in light of their social impact, sustainability and innovation by a panel of CEB staff with expertise in projects’ sustainability, monitoring and evaluation.
The most promising five shortlisted projects will be evaluated by an independent jury of five eminent members. The winner will be recognised at a ceremony to be held in Athens, Greece, on June 8, during the 2023 Joint Meeting of the CEB’s Governing Bodies.
In the previous three years, the CEB Award attracted close to 300 nominations from 29 CEB member countries, demonstrating how much the value of social cohesion resonates across European citizens.
The majority of the nominated projects provide vital services to meet the needs of vulnerable groups such as migrants, persons with disabilities, women, young people in precarious situations, or people with mental health problems.
The Award is open for nominations until 17 March 23:59 CET (Paris time). For more information and to submit your project visit award.coebank.org.
Set up in 1956, the CEB (Council of Europe Development Bank) has 42 member states. Twenty-two Central, Eastern and South Eastern European countries, forming the Bank's target countries, are listed among the member states. As a major instrument of the policy of solidarity in Europe, the Bank finances social projects by making available resources raised in conditions reflecting the quality of its rating (Aa1 with Moody's, on review for upgrade, AAA with Standard & Poor's, outlook stable, AA+ with Fitch Ratings, outlook positive and AAA* with Scope Ratings, outlook stable). It thus grants loans to its member states, and to financial institutions and local authorities in its member states for the financing of projects in the social sector, in accordance with its Articles of Agreement.
