MOLDOVA - CEB donation to blood-transfusion infrastructure
20 June 2012
PARIS - Mr. Vlad
Filat, Prime Minister, and Mr. Rolf Wenzel, Governor of the CEB, signed on 16
June, in Chisinau, a “contribution agreement” worth € 500 000 in favour of
Moldova.
Approved
at the 2012 Joint Meeting of CEB’s Governing Board and Administrative Council
in Chisinau, this donation is aimed at assisting the Ministry of Health with
the procurement of additional secondary-plasma fractionation equipment. This acquisition
is expected to reinforce the national blood-derivative production capacity and
consequently reduce Moldova’s dependence on costly plasma and related imports
from abroad.
The donation
follows on from a € 6 million loan and a € 1.44 million interest-rate subsidy
extended by CEB to Moldova in 2003, which helped achieve noticeable
improvements and modernisation of the Moldovan national blood-transfusion
system.
Governor
Wenzel emphasized the importance of this high social added value project in the
health sector for both Moldova and the CEB.
On June 16, Prime Minister Vlad Filat and Governor Rolf Wenzel also signed a framework loan agreement worth € 13.4 million, aimed at carrying out the second phase of a social housing project.
