A regional hospital in the Republic of Moldova
The Republic of Moldova has one of the lowest life expectancies in Europe - 74 years for women and 64 years for men, compared with 83 and 78 years respectively in the EU. As part of their commitment to improving healthcare, Moldovan authorities have decided to build two regional hospitals, including one in the city of Bălți. The tertiary care hospital will have a capacity of 340 beds and is expected to benefit some 681 000 people living in the northern part of the country.
To support this high-impact initiative, the Bank has secured a €3 million technical assistance grant from the EU's Neighbourhood Investment Platform (NIP). The grant will finance the design and technical documentation which will serve as the basis for the construction and equipment of the hospital.
