Sustainable procurement in the Balkans
In 2024, the Bank started providing technical assistance to borrowers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia to help them increase competition among bidders and improve the sustainability of goods, works and services in CEB-financed tenders. The ultimate goal of the initiative is to ensure that CEB funds are used in an economical, efficient and transparent manner. It is financed by the Italian authorities through the Italian Fund for Innovative Projects.
The Bank selected as a pilot project the construction of a life science campus called Bio4 in the city of Belgrade, Serbia. The project will comprise seven buildings equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, technology and research facilities. Partly financed by a CEB loan of €200 million, the project is expected to cost €398 million.
